KLATT’S BACK! DUSTY AND COLT SHARE MX1 PODIUM IN EDMONTON

Klatt & FacciottiTeam Toyota Yamaha Red Bull Blackfoot Fox Racing’s dynamic duo put their Yamaha YZ450Fs on the podium at Castrol Raceway in Edmonton, AB, June 21. Klatt and Facciotti ran away with moto-one, distancing the field and basically racing each other until Klatt took over the lead for good. “This was definitely a good weekend!” exclaimed Klatt. “My main concern was getting a good start. It’s a fast track and the start is so important. I got off in second and moved into the lead really quickly and just put on a charge. I had about four seconds on Colt until he closed in about the halfway mark. We rubbed a bit but I came out the winner, so it was awesome. We won by about a minute, so that was great!” Klatt’s first moto victory on the fast Castrol Raceway track broke the stranglehold Facciotti has held on the MX1 class. Colton Facciotti“It was me and Dusty the whole time,” said Facciotti. “I just stayed on him but couldn’t get around him and make it stick.”

In moto-two Facciotti used a good start to get into an early lead. “I started moto-two pretty decently and moved into the lead, but I made a few mistakes and Paul Carpenter got by me. He pulled me a little bit, but what can I say? He was riding well and picking good lines.” Facciotti hung on to second position while Klatt worked his way up through the pack to third. “The second moto I got a bad start, around eighth I think,” says Klatt. “I tried to get up to second but just couldn’t make it happen. I’ve always been confident and I know I can win. I just need to get it down and get it done. I’m looking forward to next weekend!”

Dusty KlattFacciotti’s lead on the MX1 point chase tightened this weekend with his third overall results, but not enough to faze him. “I only lost one point to Carpenter and Dusty, so I am still in a good position,” he says. “I have to hand it to those guys, they were on this weekend! My bike was perfect, and I can’t say enough about how hard our team has worked. (Laughs) I’m looking forward to getting back to my winning ways next weekend!”

Team Owner Jason Mitchell was very pleased with his MX1 riders. “In the first moto Dusty and Colt gave us the best moto we’ve seen in years!” he said. “Just a huge lead, with every lap within a half second of their first lap. They really gave it their all. In the second moto they were probably a little drained, but that’s ok; Colt only lost one point toward the championship. From a championship point of view they did what they had to do and rode smart. I couldn’t be happier for both of those guys. I mean Dusty and Colt are both riding so well, which makes it a lot more interesting for the fans too.”

Aron HarveyIn the MX2 class Aron Harvey put his YZ250F into third in moto-one, while Kyle Beaton fought his way to fifth while nursing his still-injured wrist. In moto-two the fast course finally got the best of Beaton, who was running fourth when he lost the front end and crashed. “The kid is trying so hard and riding so well,” says Mitchell. “It’s just tough for him to hang on with a busted-up hand. It was a disappointment, but that’s motocross.” Harvey was behind his teammate when he fell, moving him up to fourth-place finish and fourth-place overall.

Kyle Beaton“The Crew at Castrol Raceway did a great job with this event,” says Mitchell. “They have hosted a lot of National type events, so they have a great setup and a great pit area. As if the team’s solid results and the pleasant race venue weren’t uplifting enough, the spirits in the Toyota Yamaha Red Bull Blackfoot Fox pit were further buoyed by a visit from moto-legend Blair Morgan. “It was great to have Blair back with us!” says Mitchell. “JSR picked him up at the airport and brought him out Friday afternoon. The whole team was there and we had a ‘Welcome back Blair!” banner and a cake and everything. It must be hard for him, but Blair is Blair and he just wants to be part of it all. Blair was such a big part of the Blackfoot family for so many years, so it was great to have him around. I really hope he comes back to see us more often. He’s just a quality, quality guy.”
