With exceptional weather and big smiles, we headed out to Crowsnest Pass for the Blackfoot 2Moto Demo Ride this past weekend! Groups of 4 were scheduled to ride Saturday through Sunday on a variety of demo bikes provided by 2Moto.com. Corrie Brewster, Kevin Pelletier, and I drove down on Friday to set up the area. We had to shovel a waist-deep snowbank and clear out an area off the highway in order to back in our trailers! It was so worth it…
On Saturday, we welcomed several SportsmanRides.com members, all of them anxious to try out this hot new item. Danielle Bossert, Mike Archibald, and Craig Murphy were our first riders out. Gerald from 2Moto and Kevin Pelletier, a Blackfoot Sponsored dirtbike racer, led us up a crusty trail in search of some real POW. Well, we found it all right. Only 10 minutes from the truck we discovered some fun hills to play on and trees to dodge. 2Motos absolutely shine in the trees. They are so light and agile which makes them easier to control in tight, steep, and deep terrain. It's so fun to twist and turn through obstacles—just like you're floating.
Although I thoroughly enjoy sledding, I’m not sure if I will ever go again… 2Moto bikes have some incredible advantages that really work for me and my style of riding. They are easy to pull out, turn around, climb, lift side-hill, etc. On these machines, we are able to go places sleds and other snow machines couldn't dream of reaching! Plus, if you get stuck, it takes only minutes to pull yourself out and jump back on.
I was shocked to find that even in sections of waist-deep pow the bike just blasted through like nothing! Plus, some of the demo bikes ran the wide accessory powder ski—this, in conjunction with the torque of the big 4-stroke bikes made for smooth riding in all sorts of conditions! You can actually creep along the surface without burying yourself once you’ve figured out how throttle control works to your advantage. It was no surprise to learn that because of the patented track design, the 2moto system is only 4% less efficient than a dirt tire! Unreal—but it makes sense with the front ski continually packing a trail for the track; as well, the unique design transfers the majority of the weight to the back of the track, which keeps it afloat. There is a dual-shock system that controls the rear track separately from the front-track rebound, which is very important going through terrain that changes so quickly and drastically throughout your ride!
I had a good laugh trying to climb back on my bike after dumping it in the deep snow, but I can tell you first-hand, it IS possible to climb up the bike and then take off with a gentle roll of throttle.
The first ride was a success and when we got back to the truck, it was tough to get them to pass off the bikes to the next set of riders. The precedent was set for a terrific day! Everyone shared their excitement over pop, smokies, and one-bite brownies. We spent the rest of the day rotating the bikes and managed to get over 20 riders up on the mountain!
Sunday was even more fun. We relocated to an area further up road where there was untracked snow just waiting for us to indulge. Again, riders had to suffer a crusty trail ride in order to get back into the powder, however, there is no question that it was worth ride in! We found a creek canyon that was technical and full of snow. The canyon led up into a bowl with fun climbs and jumps. Based on riders' abilities we took them to new places which allowed them to get a feel for the bike at their own pace. We found that one of the most important things about 2moto-ing is taking the time to learn what the bike can and cannot do. It is amazing how high they can climb and how precisely they will side-hill, but they can also throw you to the ground in a split second if you try to push harder than your ability. Some riders had to learn this the hard way!
Although no one got hurt (other than arm pump and sore muscles), there were a few small bike part causalities. Learning 2Moto is exactly like learning to dirtbike in one important way—you WILL crash. Everyone came prepared with protective moto-gear and proper helmets, so when they went down, it was all smiles!
Back at the truck, we finished off another great day with BBQ and yakking. There is so much to talk about when you are brimming with excitement! We were delighted to see ear-to-ear smiles on all of our riders.
Thanks to everyone who came out to ride 2Moto! We are super pumped about doing more rides in the future and as they say, "Ride to live, live 2Moto!"
Thanks to Blackfoot Motosports for providing food and beverages and 2Moto for providing demo bikes!
